Position Summary:


Responsible for the overhaul, repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment which includes compression and plant equipment. Ensures that the compression and plant equipment is repaired and maintained in compliance with all company policies and procedures and applicable local, state and federal rules and regulations including but not limited to Process Safety Management, DOT and OSHA regulations. Ensures that the compression and plant equipment is set up and maintained in order to maximize return on invested capital in a safe, reliable and efficient manner.


Performs responsibilities with standardized processes. Works under general supervision. Resolves routine questions and problems using basic principles of field. Refers the more complex issues to higher levels. Generally follows established procedures to accomplish requirements of job. Some latitude for deviation.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Conduct scheduled facility and equipment inspections.
  • Perform all maintenance on compression equipment with direct supervision.
  • Regularly perform a wide spectrum of non-routine, moderately complex assignments requiring technical evaluation, innovation and judgment.
  • Under general supervision, troubleshoot, repair and maintain natural gas compression equipment to ensure that planned and unplanned outages are minimized, that environmental regulations are met and to enhance reliability and performance.
  • Repair and rebuild compression equipment of varying complexity according to defined procedures.
  • Effectively utilize special tools and instruments such as: micrometers, torque wrenches, dial indicators, manometers, peak firing pressure indicators, gas quality monitoring equipment, lifting equipment, etc.
  • Complete all overhaul records, forms and reports.
  • Under general supervision, perform major repairs and maintenance on equipment.
  • Identify correct equipment and parts for a task; coordinate with material handler to ensure parts are available when needed.
  • Ensure Lock Out Tag Out procedures are implemented and followed.
  • Coordinate and schedule contract personnel.
  • Observe all safety requirements and actively participate in company safety initiatives.
  • Identify, report and take immediate actions to correct unsafe conditions.
  • Provide field support on capital projects involving compression, including assistance with unit assembly, construction inspection and material handling.


Minimum Education & Experience:


  • Associates Degree or three (3) years’ directly related experience.
  • Valid State Driver’s License.
  • Engine overhaul experience preferred


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:


  • Knowledge in electrical wiring diagrams and control schematics.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and operating/maintenance/procedure instructions.
  • Effective communication skills necessary to promote compliance with procedures and cooperation with individuals at various levels throughout the organization.
  • Knowledge in the operation, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of various types of compression equipment and plant equipment.
  • Proficient in electronic controls and troubleshooting.
  • Proficient in equipment alignment and base deflection.
  • Basic knowledge in troubleshooting and repair of all types of equipment pertaining to instrument/electrical trade: 4-20mA signal and basic AC and DC knowledge.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude in the use of hand tools.
  • Effectively use a personal computer to enter time and complete required training.
  • Ability to participate successfully in a team based environment to accomplish assignments.
  • Ability to operate as a self-starter with individual drive and initiative to start, develop and complete projects and initiatives.
  • Communicate effectively with field employees, management and public, both orally and in writing.


Physical Requirements:


  • Ability to exert in excess of 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 10 pounds of force regularly to move objects.
  • May be required to lift seventy-five (75) pounds or more.
  • Physical ability to work around and on industrial equipment, including frequent climbing, stooping, reaching, pulling, pushing, twisting, bending, kneeling, crawling and grasping.
  • Ability to move about unrestricted and follow safety and emergency response procedures and regulations.
  • May be required to stand, sit and walk for reasonable periods of time.
  • May be required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel or crouch for reasonable periods of time.
  • Ability to move about on foot and follow safety and emergency response procedures.
  • Ability to travel long distances in a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to work in areas with limited access or cramped spaces.
  • On a routine basis, may climb ladders, walkways and scaffolds.
  • May be required to wear personal respirator.


Working Conditions:


  • Ability to work in potentially hazardous environments.
  • Ability to work with or near hazardous chemicals.
  • Ability to operate personal computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to work independently and complete scheduled work with minimal supervision.
  • Requires frequent travel via truck (some overnight) to locations throughout the system to monitor equipment and perform work activities.
  • Ability to work outdoors in weather extremes and near equipment alongside potentially high noise levels.
  • Ability to respond to emergency calls and/or call-outs and return to work while off duty.
  • Ability to work overtime (scheduled and/or unscheduled, nights and/or weekends) occasionally, as needed or required to meet established deadlines.
  • Based on business requirements, may be assigned to shiftwork.
