Position Summary:

 

Performs professional accounting functions supporting gas plant and/or gas gathering accounting using generally accepted accounting principles in areas including budgets, financial, taxation, gas, energy trading and/or compliance.

 

This position requires a seasoned and experienced individual with adequate understanding of the job area. Work is performed independently and under limited supervision. Determines approach to work and is supervised based on milestones and at key deliverable junctures. Work is reviewed for overall accuracy and soundness of judgement. Provides solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity. Frequently applies technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  • Handle most accounting problems with minimal assistance in the appropriate area of specialization (budgets, financial, taxation, property, gas, energy trading or compliance).
  • Obtain information from and coordinate the flow of information with other departments to resolve moderately complex accounting problems.
  • Prepare specialized reports/statements/reconciliations.
  • Benchmark practices against standards and competitors.
  • Identify the appropriate recording and reporting work method that achieves department and company objectives.
  • Use best practices and knowledge of functional accounting principles and business operations to ensure completeness, accuracy and usefulness of records.
  • Make recommendations to assist the Company or department in making decisions regarding present, future and potential costs.
  • Perform and document internal controls to comply with federal, state, and local laws and rulings, (Sarbanes-Oxley Act, SEC), internal processes and Company policies.
  • Analyze data, prepare journal entries and assist in the preparation of various accounting schedules, reports, filings, returns and/or statements on a timely basis.
  • Interact with auditors on various matters, specifically, preparation of audit schedules and reviews.

 

Minimum Education & Experience:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or degree with 30 hours of Accounting. Six (6) years’ directly related work experience will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Three (3) years’ directly related experience or one (1) year experience in public accounting.
  • CPA Certification preferred.

  • Knowledge of financial and accounting principles and theory.
  • Technical accounting knowledge (GAAP) and reporting skills.
  • Ability to distill data into concise and easily understood concepts and recommendations.
  • Analytical skills and experience; ability to solve a range of straightforward problems, analyzes possible solutions using standard procedures.
  • Data management skills; ability to audit, format, model and analyze large data sets.
  • Ability to distill data and analysis into high-level reports and summaries.
  • Ability to discern data inaccuracies through technical experience and knowledge.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain constructive and positive working relationships with internal clients and external professionals.
  • Oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with department management.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle confidential information and material with the highest degree of professional responsibility.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and make independent decisions.
  • Strong knowledge in Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of SAP.

 

Physical Requirements:

 

  • Sedentary to light work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Ability to view computer screen, sit, stand or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to operate a computer, copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone and other miscellaneous office equipment.

 

Working Conditions:

 

  • Ability to produce quality work in a fast-paced environment with high daily pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work non-standard work hours as needed or required to meet established deadlines.
  • Ability to work indoors, in an office environment, regardless of whether cubicle, open office or private office.
  • Subject to normal office noise levels.
