Position Summary

Performs professional accounting functions using generally accepted accounting principles in areas including budgets, financial, taxation, property, gas, energy trading, and/or compliance.


This position requires comprehensive knowledge within a functional area.  Performs work under general direction and work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives and ensuring compliance with processes, standards and policies of the organization. Provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult and complex problems.  Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practical and consistent with the objectives of the organization. This position may train and mentor less experienced professionals.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

•    Handle most accounting problems with minimal assistance in the appropriate area of specialization (budgets, financial, taxation, property, gas, energy trading or compliance).
•    Obtain information from and coordinate the flow of information with other departments to resolve complex accounting problems.
•    Technical input is used in developing accounting policies and practices.
•    Prepare specialized reports/statements/reconciliations.
•    Benchmark practices against standards and competitors.
•    Lead in identifying the appropriate recording and reporting a work method that achieves department and company objectives.
•    Guide and train colleagues with less experience.
•    Use best practices and knowledge of functional accounting principles and business operations to ensure completeness, accuracy and usefulness of records.
•    Make recommendations to assist the company or department in making decisions regarding present, future and potential costs.
•    Perform and document internal controls to comply with federal, state, and local laws and rulings, (Sarbanes-Oxley Act, SEC), internal processes and Company policies.
•    Analyze data, prepare journal entries and assist in the preparation of various accounting schedules, reports, filings, returns and/or statements on a timely basis.
•    Interact with auditors on various matters, specifically, preparation of audit schedules and reviews.
•    Take action in a self-directed manner to identify issues and make recommendations to department leadership.


Minimum Education & Experience

•    Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or degree with 30 hours of Accounting. Six (6) years’ directly related work experience will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree.
•    Five (5) years’ directly related experience or three (3) years’ experience in public accounting.
•    CPA Certification preferred.
•    Knowledge of SAP preferred.
•    Experience in general accounting areas preferred (for example, consolidation procedures and monthly accruals for debt, compensation and other operating expenses).

•    Strong knowledge in Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
•    Strong knowledge of enterprise resource planning and consolidation applications (for example, SAP FI and CO modules and BPC consolidation models).
•    Demonstrate commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, company’s ethics code of conduct and other company policies and procedures.
•    Respect and follow safety policies and regulations; scan the environment for objects or people who may pose a safety risk; encourage others to utilize safe and healthy work practices.


Physical Requirements

•    Sedentary to light work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
•    Ability to view computer screen, sit, stand or walk for extended periods of time.
•    Ability to operate a computer, copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone and other miscellaneous office equipment.
•    Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.

Working Conditions

•    Ability to produce quality work in a fast-paced environment with high daily pressure to meet deadlines.
•    Ability to work non-standard work hours as needed or required to meet established deadlines.
•    Ability to work indoors, in an office environment, regardless of whether cubicle, open office or private office.
•    Subject to normal office noise levels.
