Position Summary:


Develop instrumentation and electrical (I&E) designs, plans and specifications, perform engineering analysis, and provide design studies on assigned tasks involving engineering and construction of new gathering, processing, transmission, and storage facility assets. Responsibilities vary from straightforward to complex and include managing several assignments at the same time with different in-service timelines.  Assignments involve developing cost-effective solutions that comply with company standards and industry codes for growth capital and maintenance capital projects.


This position requires: expertise in one’s own area of responsibility; working without continuous contact with supervisor; developing technical solutions to highly complex or interrelated problems; interpreting and adapting theory and concepts into workable solutions; and authority to make decisions related to job responsibilities.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Support managing multiple medium sized projects or a reasonable number of large and significantly complex projects.
  • Support developing and maintaining project budgets, schedules and associated resources for large and significantly complex projects.
  • Develop and maintain expertise in the application of engineering principles; remain current on changes in industry best practices.
  • Review and critique proposed changes to company engineering and construction standards, policies and guidelines.
  • Prepare engineering analysis for large and significantly complex projects to include: preliminary design, engineering calculations, life cycle cost and equipment selection.
  • Create complex computer models; distill results in easily understood reports and summaries.
  • Assure design specifications conform to the latest national and local codes, rules and regulations, and generally accepted good engineering practices.
  • Specify quality assurance / quality control methods on fabricated engineering equipment.
  • Gather field data to prepare engineering studies.
  • Compile, manipulate, analyze and interpret data taken from surveys or other sources; draw conclusions and identify trends
  • Prepare, interpret and evaluate complex schematics, drawings, layouts and other visual aids; ensure design and documentation meets compliance codes.
  • Solve problems and develop solutions that call for original approach based on thorough and comprehensive research and technical expertise.
  • Develop standard operating procedures and methods for the safe and reliable operations and maintenance of engineered systems and works requiring engineering supervision.
  • Assist in the identification, development, assignment and prioritization of projects.
  • Improve and enhance planning techniques and standards through the application of subject matter expertise and knowledge.
  • Support company safety programs and initiatives by following Environmental, Health and Safety and Operations procedures and adhering to established design standards.
  • Act as a technical resource for engineers with less experience and may direct engineering staff on technically complex projects.
  • Act in a liaison capacity with other departments, divisions, and organizations.
  • May act as a representative of the company when communicating with regulatory bodies and government agencies.
  • Provide technical presentations to regulatory officials, appointed boards/commissions, the public and staff.




  • Prepare detailed design development scope documents (electrical one-lines, I/O panel layout, cable & tray details, electrical area classification studies, arc flash studies, and load studies) for gathering/processing/transmission/storage facility assets
  • Determine electrical load design criteria to meet electrical code requirements
  • Review and update arc flash studies for determine electrical hazards and labeling for electrical equipment used for energization of natural gas compression and facilities.
  • Prepare I/O lists, instrumenting index, wiring diagrams for flow computer installations
  • Determine sizing of Control Valves, Actuators, Regulators, and gas flow control valves based on natural gas properties and operating conditions.
  • Design gas and liquid measurement skids using AGA requirements
  • Function as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) reviewer of engineering designs and projects.
  • Approve changes to industry codes to incorporate into Enable company standards.
  • Serve as a SME for incident investigations or depositions on behalf of the Legal Department.
  • Serve as manager in the development, facilitation and implementation of metrics, processes and procedures.




  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology and/or Professional Engineering License (PE)


Minimum Qualifications:


  • Five (5) years’ directly related experience with instrumentation and electrical design
  • Valid State Driver's license.



Preferred Qualifications:


  • Electrical Engineering Degree preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of design of gathering/processing/transmission/storage facility assets.
  • Advanced knowledge of federal, state and local rules, regulations and codes (NEC, IEEE, NFPA, IBC, AGA, DOT 192 & 195) that apply to the oil and gas industry.

Physical Requirements:


  • May be required to climb ladders, walkways, or scaffolds.
  • May be required to work at heights up to and exceeding thirty (30) feet and within below grade excavations.
  • Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and travel long distances.
  • Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or other move objects.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop.
  • Ability to sit and view computer terminal for extended period of time.
  • Ability to operate a copy machine, calculator, telephone and other miscellaneous office equipment.


Working Conditions:


  • Ability to work indoors in an office environment and, on occasion, in an outdoor environment with exposure to hot, dirty and/or greasy equipment that may generate above average noise levels.
  • Occasional travel is required.
  • May be required to work non-standard hours, holidays, and schedules to include on-call and call-outs.
  • May be exposed to extreme conditions and inclement weather.
