Position Summary:

 

Develop plans and specifications, perform analysis, and provide reports on assigned tasks involving design and construction of new assets, operation and maintenance of existing assets or the optimization of assets.  Technically involved in the resolution of equipment and operational problems that may include performing field investigation or inspections, performing design work, developing complex statistical models, detailed review of design computations and fitness for service evaluations.  Ensure compliance with company and industry standards as well as state and federal regulations.

 

This position requires advanced knowledge within the functional area defined in the Specialization section below and is often considered an expert in the area of responsibility. Performs work without appreciable direction and completed work is reviewed from a relatively long-term perspective for desired results. Develops technical solutions to highly complex or interrelated problems. Requires the ability to interpret and adapt theory and concepts into workable solutions. Leads and mentors less experienced professionals.

 

Specialization:

 

  • Sound understanding of Parts 192 and 195 of CFR 49
  • Extensive knowledge of Part 195.452
  • Sound understanding of threats to pipelines and consequences of failure
  • Sound understanding of preventative and mitigative measures
  • Thorough knowledge of assessment methods allowed by Part 195.452
  • Meets with general public and/or developers, landowners, and interest groups concerning zoning, subdivision projects, building projects and engineering regulations, standards, or policies.
  • Ability to determine fitness for service of corrosion defects based on remaining strength calculations using B31.G and RSTRENG
  • Ability to plan and execute pipeline assessments by either In-Line Inspection or pressure test
  • Ability to determine fitness for service of crack and crack like defects using NG-18 Ln Secant (KAPA) or other approved industry method
  • Ability to explain IM procedures, processes and practices to state and federal auditors.
  • Basic understanding of corrosion causes and prevention
  • Basic understanding of root cause analysis using TapRoot methodology
  • Sound understanding of Integrity Management Program
  • Sound understanding of Pipeline Safety and Operations & Maintenance procedures. 
  • Ability to budget, forecast and track costs for moderately complex projects.
  • Thorough understanding in AFE, Supply Chain and Requisition-to-Pay policies and methods.  

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  • Manage multiple small to medium sized projects of moderate complexity.
  • Develop and maintain project budgets, schedules and associated resources for projects of moderate complexity.
  • Develop expertise in the application of engineering principles.
  • Propose changes to engineering standards, procedures, policies and guidelines.
  • Prepare engineering analysis for moderately complex projects to include: preliminary design, engineering calculations, life cycle cost and equipment selection.
  • Create complex simulations and models; distill results in easily understood reports and summaries.
  • Assure design specifications conform to the latest national and local codes, rules and regulations, and generally accepted good engineering practices.
  • Conduct surveys to gather field data.
  • Compile, manipulate, analyze and interpret data taken from surveys or other sources; draw conclusions and identify trends
  • Prepare and interpret complex schematics, drawings, layouts and other visual aids; ensure design and documentation meets compliance codes.
  • Solve problems and develop solutions that call for original approach based on thorough and comprehensive research and technical expertise.
  • Develop standard operating procedures and methods for the safe and reliable operations and maintenance of engineered systems and works requiring engineering supervision.
  • Identify and recommend projects for future consideration.
  • Support company safety programs and initiatives by following Pipeline Safety, EHS and Operations procedures and adhering to established design standards.
  • Support the preparation of annual capital and O&M Budgets.
  • Act as a technical resource for engineers with less experience.
  • Train less experienced Engineers in project management, documentation and technical expertise.
  • Collaborate with other departments, divisions, and organizations to ensure coordination of project timing and interruptions to operations.
  • Ensure materials and material specifications meet company standards and industry codes for oil and gas industry.
  • May act as a representative of the company when communicating with regulatory bodies and government agencies.

     

    Minimum Education & Experience:

     

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology.
  • Five (5) years directly related experience.
  • Valid State Driver's license.

     

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

     

  • Strong Knowledge of oil and natural gas gathering/processing/transmission/storage operations.
  • Strong Knowledge of design and construction of gathering/processing/transmission/storage assets.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state and local rules, regulations and codes that impact gathering/processing/transmission/storage/measurement/compression of oil and natural gas.
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards for safe, reliable and the cost-effective operation and maintenance of engineered systems and works requiring engineering supervision.
  • Strong knowledge of the elements of contracts, costing approaches, and the influence of conceptual design proposal cost on contract terms.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in speech and writing with employees at all levels throughout the organization.
  • Ability to collaborate across functions to improve business processes.
  • Ability to motivate self, accomplish tasks and achieve goals with negligible supervision.
  • Ability to identify solutions to problems with creativity and innovative thinking.
  • Ability to explain complex technical data to a wide range of audiences.
  • Ability to distill data and analysis into high-level reports and summaries.

    Physical Requirements:

     

  • May be required to climb ladders, walkways, or scaffolds.
  • May be required to work at heights up to and exceeding thirty (30) feet and within below grade excavations.
  • Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and travel long distances.
  • Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or other move objects.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop.
  • Ability to sit and view computer terminal for extended period of time.
  • Ability to operate a copy machine, calculator, telephone and other miscellaneous office equipment.

     

    Working Conditions:

     

  • Ability to work indoors in an office environment and, on occasion, in an outdoor environment with exposure to hot, dirty and/or greasy equipment that may generate above average noise levels.
  • Occasional travel is required. 
  • May be required to work nights, weekends and holidays. 
  • May be required to work non-standard hours, holidays, and schedules to include on-call and callouts. 
  • May be exposed to extreme conditions and inclement weather.
