Position Summary

Design and operational support of Operational Technology (OT) system processes and information to ensure the availability, reliability, integrity, and usability of the OT systems and the information and processes contained within the system. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with internal, external, and 3rd party vendors required to accomplish OT business goals. The SCADA Engineer understands and performs technical functions needed to configure, maintain, design, and trouble shoot the OT systems and the processes and support applications associated with the system. The SCADA Engineer is a bridge between the OT systems and the end-users.

 

This position requires a seasoned and experienced individual with adequate understanding of the job area.  Work is performed independently and under limited supervision. Determines approach to work and is supervised based on milestones and at key deliverable junctures.  Work is reviewed for overall accuracy and soundness of judgement. Provides solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity.  Frequently applies technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques.
 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan all phases of assigned projects with limited supervision or support relatively one or more components of moderately complex projects with direction from more experienced analysts.
  • Design, configure and maintain OT systems.
  • Develop moderately complex queries and applications to support current/future business operations.
  • Develop queries and applications to support current/future business operations.
  • Collect information to analyze and evaluate existing or proposed systems.
  • Recommend improvements to business processes as supported by application systems.
  • Review, analyze, develop, design, and implement methods and to satisfy internal and external reporting needs and requirements; utilizes personal computer and applications computer software for both calculations.
  • Maintain understanding of future direction of application system technologies/products and participate in the determination of tactical and strategic upgrades necessary to meet business requirements.
  • Conduct technical research on system upgrades to determine feasibility, cost, time required and compatibility with current systems.
  • Recommend improvements to business processes as supported by application systems. Analyze and evaluate current or proposed business procedures or problems to define needs.

Minimum Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science/Engineering, or other technically related field.  In lieu of a degree, six (6) years’ directly related experience will be considered.
•    Knowledge of OT system processes
•    Two (2) years of directly related experience
 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

•    Experience or certification using Telvent and/or other OT systems
•    Knowledge of RTU/EFM devices and other OT related field devices
•    Knowledge of SCADA communication data flow and protocols
•    Strong technical skills within the gas pipeline industry
•    Must possess good problem-solving skills.
•    Analytical skills; ability to solve a range of straightforward problems, analyzes possible solutions using standard procedures.
•    Data management skills; ability to audit, format, model and analyze large data sets.
•    Ability to develop system solutions for operational problems.
•    Ability to plan, implement, test, and troubleshoot system software.
•    Collaboration skills in order to partner effectively across various levels of the organization.
•    Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization.
•    Ability to communicate well; excellent interpersonal skills
•    Ability to investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions.
•    Ability to communicate technical guidance and instruction to users on the use of systems and/or applications.
•    Ability to learn and utilize a working knowledge of broad business environment, energy industry, and corporate operations.  
•    Ability to interact in a team environment.
•    Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite.
 

Physical Requirements

•    Able to operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop
•    Must have the ability to operate a copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone, and other office equipment
•    Able to sit and view a personal computer display for long periods of time
 

Working Conditions

•    Office work environment with extensive use of a computer.
•    May require extensive travel.
•    Fast paced environment with high daily pressure to meet deadlines.
•    May be required to work non-standard work schedules to include on- call and call-outs.
