Position Summary:


Performs professional accounting functions using generally accepted accounting principles in areas including budgets, financial, taxation, property, gas, energy trading and/or compliance.


This is an entry-level position and requires an individual who is still learning to apply the theoretical or professional concepts or techniques of the field. This job contributes to the completion of projects and performs relatively standard processes and tasks. Develops solutions to routine problems with a finite scope. Performs limited use or application of technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques. Participates in more complex projects and tasks with guidance and direction from supervisor or more senior professionals.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Use professional accounting concepts and internal company policies to solve accounting problems in the appropriate area of specialization (budgets, financial, taxation, property, gas, energy trading or compliance).
  • Technical input is used in developing accounting policies and practices.
  • Prepare specialized reports/statements/reconciliations.
  • Benchmark practices against standards and competitors.
  • Identify the appropriate recording and reporting work method that achieves department and company objectives.
  • Use best practices and knowledge of functional accounting principles and business operations to ensure completeness, accuracy and usefulness of records.
  • Perform and document internal controls to comply with federal, state and local laws and rulings, (Sarbanes-Oxley Act, SEC), internal processes and company policies.
  • Analyze data, prepare journal entries and assist in the preparation of various accounting schedules, reports, filings, returns and/or statements on a timely basis.
  • Interact with auditors on various matters, specifically, preparation of audit schedules and reviews.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly and year-end reporting.


Minimum Education & Experience:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or degree with 30 hours of Accounting. In lieu of a degree, six (6) years’ directly related work experience will be considered.
  • One (1) year directly related experience.
  • Experience with SAP’s Enterprise Resource Planning Software & Systems preferred.
  • Valid State Driver's License.

  • Technical accounting knowledge (GAAP) and reporting skills.
  • Analytical skills and experience; ability to solve a range of straightforward problems, analyze possible solutions using standard procedures.
  • Data management skills; ability to audit, format, model and analyze large data sets.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain constructive and positive working relationships with internal clients and external professionals.
  • Oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with department management.
  • Ability to handle confidential information and material with the highest degree of professional responsibility.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and make independent decisions.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).


Physical Requirements:


  • Sedentary to light work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Ability to view computer screen, sit, stand or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to operate a computer, copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone and other miscellaneous office equipment.


Working Conditions:


  • Ability to produce quality work in a fast-paced environment with high daily pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work non-standard work hours as needed or required to meet established deadlines.
  • Ability to work indoors, in an office environment, regardless of whether cubicle, open office or private office.
  • Subject to normal office noise levels.
