Position Summary: 

Ensure compliance with US federal, state, and local tax laws and for maintaining tax processes that maximize efficiency. Assist with interim/annual tax provision and reporting as well as regulatory reporting. This position will have primary focus in federal tax issues.


This is an entry level position and requires an individual who is still learning to apply the theoretical professional concepts or techniques of the field.  Contributes to the completion of projects and performs relatively standard processes and tasks.  Develops solutions to routine problems of with a finite scope.  Limited use or application of technical standards, principles, theories concepts and techniques.  Participates in more complex projects and tasks with guidance and direction from supervisor or more senior professionals. 


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Prepares federal, state and local, corporate income/franchise tax returns, partnership tax returns, and estimated/extension tax payments.
  • Prepare multi-state and local transaction sales/use tax returns while complying with all filing deadlines.
  • Prepare annual ad valorem tax returns for state and locally assessed companies including processing of tax bills, tax payments, and tax accruals.
  • Prepares various components of the monthly and quarterly ASC 740 (formerly FAS 109 and FIN 48) accruals including the calculation of book to tax differences, tax basis balance sheets, and income tax account reconciliations.
  • Prepares various components of the monthly Income tax accruals prepared for FERC regulated entities including the calculation of book to tax differences, tax basis balance sheets, and income tax account reconciliations.
  • Assists with the preparation of various regulatory filings (FERC Forms 2/6) and assist in rate cases for regulated business units.
  • Assist with research and planning, analyzing tax law, documenting positions, monitoring state and local law changes and assessing impact to company.
  • Assists business units with tax issues that may arise and assists management on special projects.
  • Assist with the implementation and maintenance of tax compliance and provision software.
  • Reviews/reconciles tax sensitive general ledger accounts as needed.
  • Foster a high performance culture for the tax department.


Minimum Education & Experience: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business.
  • Valid State Driver’s License.


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Possess introductory knowledge of the federal and state tax laws and regulations, accounting and related application of such.
  • Knowledge of financial and accounting principles and theory.
  • Introductory knowledge of ASC 740 preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, and experience with OneSource Income Tax, and fixed asset system(s) is preferred.
  • Ability to handle confidential information and material with the highest degree of professional responsibility.
  • Analytical skills and experience; ability to solve a range of routine and straightforward problems, analyzes possible solutions using standard procedures.
  • Data management skills; ability to audit, format and analyze large data sets.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions.
  • Basic knowledge of statistical analysis and fundamental audit processes.
  • Strong collaboration skills in order to partner effectively inside and outside of the tax department.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and schedule tasks, respond well to changing priorities, pay attention to detail and demonstrate good time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and work with limited supervision.
  • CPA or Candidate for CPA preferred.


Physical Requirements:

  • Sedentary to light work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects
  • Ability to operate a personal computer
  • Ability to view computer screen, sit, stand or walk for long periods of time
  • Ability to operate a copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone and other miscellaneous office equipment

  • Ability to work non-standard work hours as needed or required to meet established deadlines
  • Ability to work indoors, in an office environment, regardless of whether cubicle, open office or private office
