Position Summary:


Provides regularly scheduled troubleshooting analysis of compression and process equipment. Provides detailed compression and processing equipment analysis and technical reports which ensures efficient operation and maintenance of natural gas compression and process equipment. Works closely with the compression operations and processing groups to provide analysis and reports in the area of engine compressor analysis while maintaining compliance with all company policies, procedures and applicable local, state and federal rules and regulations including, but not limited to: Process Safety Management, DOT and OSHA regulations. Operates technically advanced equipment to perform analysis to ensure that the compression and plant equipment is set up, operated and maintained in order to maximize return on invested capital in a safe, reliable and efficient manner.


This position handles complex responsibilities related to the primary focus of job area. Proficient in a range of processes or procedures within the area of responsibility. Works under minimal supervision. May act as an informal resource for less experienced employees. Resolves most questions and problems. Refers only the most complex issues to higher levels. Fully understands principles of technical field. Identifies key issues and patterns from partial or conflicting information. May adapt procedures, processes and techniques to meet more complex requirements of the position.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Under minimal supervision – plan, conduct and lead assignments of a complex nature.
  • Provide regularly scheduled predictive analysis regarding maintenance condition, performance and vibration on compression and process equipment.
  • Prioritize and develop analysis schedule in conjunction with operations managers.
  • Assist compression operations personnel to improve operating efficiencies, lower fuel costs, and troubleshoot equipment.
  • Observe all safety requirements and actively participate in company safety initiatives.
  • Identify, report and take immediate actions to correct unsafe conditions.
  • Promote positive team working atmosphere.
  • Ensure Lock Out Tag Out procedures are implemented and followed. Assist in the development of Lock Out Tag Out procedures on an as-needed basis.
  • Ensure Safe Work Permit is required and valid.
  • Regularly perform a wide spectrum of non-routine, moderately complex assignments requiring technical evaluation, innovation and judgment.
  • Provide detailed reports on equipment performance and condition, including recommendations for improvement, to operations personnel and Diagnostic Supervisor.
  • Effectively utilize special tools and instruments such as: Performance Analyzers, Electronic manometers, Infrared cameras and devices, complex analysis software and velocity meters.
  • Assist with projects, new equipment commissioning, capital maintenance projects, equipment retrofits, reliability and efficiency upgrades with horsepower testing and verification and vibration studies.
  • Following company guidelines and procedures, will maintain all records and documentation associated with engine/compressor analysis.


Secondary Duties:


  • May perform one or more multi-skilled operations and maintenance duties in addition to the primary roles and responsibilities listed above. Responsibilities include but are not limited to electronics, pipeline, compressor, and regulatory compliance functions with direct guidance.


Minimum Education & Experience:


  • Associate’s Degree in Natural Gas Compression, Mechanical, Electronic, Computer Technology or other Technical Discipline. In lieu of a technical degree, three (3) years’ directly related experience will be considered.
  • Three (3) years’ directly related experience.
  • Valid State Driver’s License.


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:


  • Possess and apply comprehensive knowledge of particular field of specialization to the completion of complex assignments.
  • Possess skills in planning, organization and project management.
  • Ability to serve as a resource in a multi-functional environment.
  • Advanced knowledge in the operation and maintenance of all types of compression, process and electrical equipment.
  • Advanced skills in troubleshooting and repair of all types of compression, process and electrical equipment.
  • Advanced knowledge in electrical wiring diagrams and control schematics.
  • Basic knowledge in troubleshooting and repair of all types of equipment pertaining to instrument/electrical trade: a) 4-20 mA signal; b) basic AC and DC knowledge.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating/maintenance/procedure instructions.
  • Ability to communicate and interpret mechanical performance information and diagrams.
  • Possess effective communication skills necessary to promote compliance with procedures and cooperation with individuals at various levels throughout the organization.
  • Advanced knowledge in medium voltage, electric motor drive and controls.
  • Advanced knowledge in electronic controls and troubleshooting.
  • Proficient in the use of computers and the Microsoft office suite.
  • Proficient in the use of vibration analysis equipment.
  • Proficient in the use of Windrock analysis software.
  • Proficient in the use of a Windrock Performance Analyzer.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude in the use of hand tools.
  • Ability to work and participate successfully in a team-based environment to accomplish assignments.
  • Ability to operate as a self-starter with individual drive and initiative to start, develop and complete projects and initiatives.
  • Communicate effectively with field employees, management and public, both orally and in writing.


Physical Requirements:


  • Ability to exert in excess of 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 10 pounds of force regularly to move objects.
  • May be required to lift fifty (50) pounds or more.
  • Physical ability to work around and on industrial equipment, including frequent climbing, stooping, reaching, pulling, pushing, twisting, bending, kneeling, crawling and grasping.
  • Ability to move about unrestricted and follow safety and emergency response procedures and regulations.
  • May be required to stand, sit and walk for reasonable periods of time.
  • May be required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel or crouch for reasonable periods of time.
  • Must be able to move about on foot and follow safety and emergency response procedures.
  • Ability to travel long distances in a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to work in areas with limited access or cramped spaces.
  • On a routine basis, may climb ladders, walkways and scaffolds.
  • May be required to wear SCBA.

  • Ability to travel frequently via truck (some overnight) to locations throughout the system to monitor equipment and perform work activities.
  • Ability to work outdoors in weather extremes and near equipment alongside potentially high noise levels.
  • Ability to carry a cell phone while on-call and respond to call-outs, potentially including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to respond to emergency calls and/or call-outs and return to work while off duty.
  • Ability to work overtime (scheduled and/or unscheduled, nights and/or weekends) occasionally, as needed or required to meet established deadlines.
