Responsible for the daily operations and control of all plant processing equipment, including pumps, vessels, compressors, fans, electric motors and turbo expanders in a manner that fully supports the Company’s vision and operating objectives. Starts and stops all equipment and is responsible for daily performance of the plant including recovery of NGL’s and throughput, and the operation of dehydration and amine treating systems, and integrated crude oil gathering systems. Ensures that the plant is operated, within safe operating limits, and maintained in compliance with all company policies and procedures and applicable local, state and federal rules and regulations including but not limited to process safety management and OSHA regulations. Ensures the plant is set up, operated and maintained in order to maximize return on invested capital in a safe, reliable and efficient manner.


This position performs responsibilities with standardized processes. Works under general supervision. Resolves routine questions and problems using basic principles of functional area. Refers more complex issues to higher levels. Follows established procedures to accomplish requirements of job. There is some latitude for deviation associated with this level.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Understand and utilize plant performance models to optimize plant operations.
  • Measure and account for fugitive emissions.
  • Participate in the testing of all safety shutdowns.
  • May prepare operating and maintenance reports, written work plans, pre-job plans and Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures for operating plants.
  • Review plant P&ID’s and facilities on-line drawings for accuracy and report changes to Plant Supervision.
  • Limited training of entry-level Plant Operators.
  • Maintain all documentation relating to Process Safety Management (PSM) and other regulatory agencies.
  • Participate in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR) and Management of Change (MOC) reviews.
  • Operate all processes and auxiliary equipment with limited guidance from more experienced operators.
  • Perform troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of all plant equipment with limited guidance from more experienced operators.
  • Perform maintenance work incidental to good housekeeping and plant upkeep.
  • Maintaining inventory of supplies and materials needed to perform assigned duties.
  • Perform inspections, repairs, and maintain plant, pipeline and compression equipment at specified operating intervals.
  • Identify, report and take immediate action to correct unsafe plant conditions.
  • Complete hot and cold work permits, entry permits for confined space and excavation and follow Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures.
  • Modify plant operating conditions as specified by management.
  • Read and record all plant process data as required on a daily basis.
  • Perform product quality control test and implement corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with plant maintenance technicians, contract labor, operators and other personnel regarding repairs and maintenance work performed in the plant area.
  • Maintain strict surveillance and enforcement of all safety and environmental regulations and procedures at all times.
  • Perform all safety equipment inspections as assigned.
  • Follow PSM guidance and procedures as applicable.
  • May perform one or more multi-skilled operations, maintenance and installation duties in addition to the primary roles and responsibilities listed above. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: measurement, electronics, dehydration, treating, corrosion, pipeline, compressor, gas processing plants, amine treating facilities and regulatory compliance functions with direct guidance.


Minimum Education & Experience:

  • Associates Degree/Vocational Certificate -or- three (3) years’ directly related experience.
  • Valid State Driver’s License.


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:


  • Possess and apply knowledge of practices and procedures of plant processing and apply to daily operation of the plant and the completion of complex assignments.
  • Knowledgeable in liquid measurement equipment, sampling techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to start and stop equipment in accordance with proper procedures.
  • Demonstrated mechanical and technical aptitude.
  • Advanced knowledge of troubleshooting and repair of most plant processing equipment.
  • Ability to effectively use a personal computer with MS Office Suite applications (Word, Excel & Outlook).
  • Familiar with concepts, practices and procedures of natural gas processing, amine operations and crude oil systems.
  • Basic knowledge of PLC/HMI programming.
  • Proficient knowledge of the fundamentals of gas processing including the relationship between pressure, temperature and gas composition.
  • Proficient knowledge of pneumatic and electronic controls.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude in the use of hand tools.
  • Possess an understanding of PSM and to other regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic electrical and control drawings.
  • Ability to work and participate successfully in a team-based environment to accomplish assignments.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain logs and records.
  • Operate as a self-starter with individual drive and initiative to start, develop and complete limited scope projects and initiatives. Coordinate scheduling of project work with multiple work teams. Prepare and submit all required documentation with guidance from more experienced technicians and/or supervisor(s).

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to exert in excess of twenty (20) pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of ten (10) pounds of force regularly to move objects.
  • May be required to lift fifty (50) pounds or more.
  • Physical ability to work around and on industrial equipment, including frequent climbing, stooping, reaching, pulling, pushing, twisting, bending, kneeling, crawling and grasping.
  • Ability to move about unrestricted and follow safety and emergency response procedures and regulations.
  • May be required to stand, sit, walk, stoop, kneel or crouch for reasonable periods of time.
  • Ability to travel long distances in a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to work in areas with limited access or cramped spaces.
  • On a routine basis, may climb ladders, walkways and scaffolds.


Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work in potentially hazardous environments.
  • Ability to work with or near hazardous chemicals.
  • Ability to operate personal computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to travel frequently via truck (some overnight) to locations throughout the system to monitor equipment and perform work activities.
  • Ability to work outdoors in weather extremes and near equipment with potentially high noise levels.
  • Ability to carry a cell phone while on-call and respond to call-outs, potentially including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to respond to emergency calls and/or call-outs and return to work while off duty.
  • Ability to work overtime (scheduled and/or unscheduled, nights and/or weekends), occasionally, as needed or required to meet established deadlines.
  • Based on business requirements, may be assigned to shiftwork.
